VW Invasion 1 (one…one…one…one)

I had the pleasure of getting to put together the VW Invasion 1 (one…one…one…one) shirt for my good friend Jill of Grins Graphics in Grass Valley. Ca. It was a repurposed but redesigned gig. She provided the concept and then let me do my thing.

It was pretty cool cause it’s the first show for these kooky NorCal cats and it’s great to be involved if even from afar because their enthusiasm for the car and the hobby is just great. I really appreciate getting a shot at it. This is one I hope to land again. Pretty fun.

Post 4: Color time

Here’s the color in progress. I’m still defining a few areas, but it’s really coming along nicely. I’m enjoying the plan of letting the shirt come through and shade for me.

This has been one of the most enjoyable jobs I’ve had in a while.

Post 3: Lineart.

Here’s a look at the lineart and the hilite and shadow lines, (in red). It has pretty good weight to it. It’s ready for color now. Should be fun

Post 2: A tighter rough.

So…the rough comp was well received but, as is normal, there were a few modifications. The year was moved to the bottom and the header text resized. The location got supersized like an order of fries and there were just a few positioning issues.

This is version 2 and I like the flow in this one. I can see the finished render in my head now. Pending approval I can’t wait to dig into this one.

Post 1: The rough rough. Here’s a fun one on deck for a cool NorCal group.

I was asked to put some steps online and kinda share the process so their members could see how it comes together.

The design will be in color on a dark shirt so I put together a rough comp on black. This sketch idea is where we will build this design from. Pretty fun piece to sketch. I will add to this post in the future. New stuff on top.

This year the Annual Chirco Cruise was amazing! 74 cars!….and me.

I’ve seen tilt-shift videos for a while, it’s cool how things look like toys. I had not seen one done with VWs, so……
