Well this was a fun one, that’s for sure.

As usual it all starts with a pencil sketch that I refine over and over until I lock it down.

Like I said there is some refining that goes on. Coming up with a plan for all that chrome was a bear but once I got into a flow it really fell into place.

Here’s the start of the linework in Photoshop. Seems kinda silly to redraw what you just drew but I’m kinda silly so I guess that makes it normal.

The drawing kinda took root here. Once I got the blacks in the wheels it felt a lot better to me.

Here was the start of the color. I knew the body color was off here but I just wanted to see it. I was pleased with how it folded into the lines. The drawing really got fun from here.

In this close up you can see I presented my interpretation of Brian Stupski wheels in how they sit in the wells and also in the fact that it was around here that I decided to leave some of the pencil in and see if it added to the character of the piece. I was pretty pleased. I study works by a lot of the hot shots out there and it’s through methods of flattery like this that I learn to see and make my work feel better, so big ups to Mr. Stupski for the insight and inspiration.

So here it all…all done. Like I said…very fun piece and a nice break from VWs for me. It’s my understanding that this is a Christmas gift and the car owner will be reading this page on Christmas day, so…Merry Christmas!…I hope you like it. Thanx for giving me an opportunity to draw it L. Very very cool.
